A list of Liquors and Liqueurs that all Bartenders

should be familiar with.

Absinthe Absinthe is a strong herbal liqueur distilled with a great number of flavorful herbs like anise, licorice, hyssop, veronica, fennel, lemon balm, angelica and wormwood (the flavor of anise and/or licorice, at least in contemporary forms of the liquor, tends to predominate). Wormwood, the one that's gained the most notoriety, is Artemisia absinthum, an herb that grows wild in Europe and has been cultivated in the United States as well. Much of the liquor's legendary effect is due to its extremely high alcohol content, ranging from 50% to 75% (usually around 60%), plus the contribution of the various herbs.
Absolut Vodka Absolut vodka is one of the premium vodkas on the market today Absolut vodka has a full line of flavors to choose from. Many new recipes are using the Absolut Flavored Vodkas. The Absolut Vodka family of flavors do not have any added sugar like liqueurs do. They have combined the clean vodka taste with vibrant fruit flavor without the sugar. Aftershock Aftershock is a Cinnamon liqueur 30% Alcohol by Volume - 60 proof. Aftershock liqueur is sweet with a very strong Cinnamon flavor that you can drink as a shot or mixed into a cocktail. After shock comes in differnt flavors, however only the Cinnamon is Popular and the other flavors of Aftershock can hardly even be found anywhere. Aftershock liqueur can be used in place of goldschlager cinnamon schnapps or Hot Damn Cinnamon schnapps for Cocktail Recipes calling for Cinnamon Schnapps.
Alize Alize Liqueur is a cognac based liqueur and in the newer versions they have used vodka as a base. Alize is also available as a straight cocnac at 40% abv. The most popular alize type is the passion gold which mixes cognac with passion fruit juice.
Amaretto Amaretto Liqueur is a very sweet liqueur. The more quality brands are suitable for drinking straight or on the rocks. Amaretto Liqueur gained popularity with the Amaretto Sour and the Alabama Slammer.Amaretto Liqueur is flavored with the kernel of the apricot. The apricot pit is quite bitter, but with the addition of sugar and other flavors the resulting taste is more of an almond flavor. Most people mistakingly think that amartto is an almond flavored liqueur. Although Amaretto is not flavored with almonds it does indeed taste that way.
Amber Picon Amer Picon is a bittersweet French aperitif with a unique orange flavor. The proprietary blend dates back to 1837 and was reformulated in the 1970's into a weaker form, reduced from 39% alc/volume to 21%. Along with orange, Amer Picon is made with quinine, cinchona, and genetian.
Angostura Bitters Angostura bitters is a concentrated bitters, or botanically infused alcoholic mixture, made of water, 44.7% alcohol, herbs and spices,[1] by House of Angostura in Trinidad and Tobago. It is typically used for flavouring beverages or (less often) food. The bitters were first produced in the town of Angostura (Ciudad Bolívar, Venezuela) (hence the name), and do not contain angostura bark. The bottle is easily recognisable by its distinctive over-sized label.
Anisette Anisette Liqueur is an Anise flavored Liqueur. Anise gives the Anisette liqueur a black licorice flavor that is very strong and sweet. Anisette liquer can be consumed straight up or over ice for sipping or mixed into a cocktail to add a licorice element.
Anise Anise is a Licorice flavored Liqueur. Some of the Popular brands include, Sambuca, Ouzo and Galliano. Anise is usually enjoyed in a snifter glass at room temperture. When you add ice to this liqueur it will become cloudy or milky in appearance.
Aperol Bitters Aperol Behind the Aperol Aperol was created in 1919 in the northern Italian city of Padua by brothers Silvio and Luigi Barbieri. They had the revolutionary idea to create the mildest aperitif ever - with an alcohol content of only 11%. It makes an ideal aperitif Aperol and alcohol-light drinks and cocktails later in the evening. Aperol Spritz is the most famous Aperol drink - and Italy's favorite aperitif.
Apple Brandy Apple Brandy is a Brandy that has been fermented from apples and then later distilled into a spirit. not to be confused with apple flavored Brandy which is a brandy made from grapes and flavored with apple flavor, or Apple liqueur/schnapps which is a neutral spirit infused or flavored with apple flavor and sugar. The most notable of the Apple Brandies would be Calvados and Applejack.
Apple Pucker DeKuyper Sour Apple Pucker Schnapps is a green apple flovored Schnapps. Sour Apple Pucker is used in the very popular martini recipes, Washington Apple and the Apple Martini. Sour Apple Pucker Schnapps is the most popular of the DeKuyper Pucker Schnapps that are available. Sour Apple Pucker is made with neutral spirits sugar and infused with green apple flavor.:
Apricot Brandy Apricot brandy is a brandy made from apricots. Apricots lend this Brandy a very distinctive flavor, and a rich amber color. .Apricot brandy can be drunk straight, used in various recipes, and added to cocktails and other mixed drinks. Most markets which stock liquor carry apricot brandy. Not to be confused with Apricot flavored Brandy which is a brandy made from grapes and flavored with apricots, or apricot liqueur/schnapps which is a neutral spirit infused or flavored with apricot flavor and sugar.
Bacardi Rum Bacardi Rum. is by far the most popular and best selling rum in the world.. Bailey's Irish Cream Baileys Irish Cream .is a blend of Irish whiskey, Cream, Sugar and a hint of vanilla spice. The exact recipe is somewhat of a secret but those are the dominating flavors that come through. Baileys irish Cream liqueur is made by Gilbeys of Ireland and is under the controll of Diageo. Bailey's irish cream liqueur is 34 proof /17 % Alcohol by Volume.
Baileys Irish cream is also very popular in Alcoholic Desserts.
Beefeater Gin Beefeater Gin requires no introduction.  Any bar you go to, no matter if it is a pricey club in Manhattan or a dive bar downtown, will likely carry it.  There is good reason for this.  Beefeater is an inexpensive and very good gin. Benedictine

Benedictine Liqueur is an elixer of 27 herbs and flavors and plenty of sugar. Benedictine liqueur has a very unique taste and is most popular straight or mixed with brandy and sipped in a brandy snifter.

Bitters Bitters is an alcoholic beverage that is flavored with herbal essences and has a bitter or bittersweet flavor. There are many brands of bitters that were formerly marketed as having medicinal properties but are now considered to be digestifs, rather than medicines. Bitters commonly have an alcoholic strength of 45% ABV and are used as digestifs and as flavoring in cocktails.
The word "bitters" derives from the fact that it does not contain added sugar or sweetener despite being strongly flavored. However, if the bitters is a tonic,or non-condiment Bitters like Campari, it may have some added sugar.
Black Currant Liqueur Black currants are very popular throughout Europe, and Russia is the world’s largest producer of currants and gooseberries. While the leaves are used to pickle vegetables, the acidic but highly flavorful berries are made into preserves, jellies, juices, wines or liqueurs. In the U.S., cultivation was banned in the early 1900’s as it became a threat to the logging industry. In New York State the ban was only lifted in 2003 — I guess it took that long for everyone to finally agree that logging was declining for good. Until recently, the packaged dried fruits known as currants were simply small raisins, and in most cases they still are.
Black Haus Black Haus Liquer taste great as an ice cold shot, but many Cocktail recipes have come along using Black haus liqueur. I seems that a good amount of these recipes couple Black Haus Liqueur with Liqueurs that carry a German Name Like Rumpleminze, goldschlager and Jagermeister. This does seem like a natural union however, Black Haus wil add a nice Berry flavor to many existing cocktails so long as you work out the proportions. Good luck and do enjoy!
Blackbery Brandy Blackberry Brandy is made from brandy with added sugar and blackberries. A very sweet drink that can be served as a cordial but is usually mixed with other ingredients to sweeten, color and/or add a berry element to a cocktail. Blackberry liqueur can be mixed with brandy for a less sweet cocktail drink recipe. ;Many tropical drink recipes can also benefit from the addition of this sweet and fruity liqueur. Blue Curacao Blue Curacao is a liqueur flavoured with the dried peel of the laraha citrus fruit, grown on the island of Curacao. A non-native plant similar to an orange, the laraha developed from the sweet Valencia orange transplanted by Spanish explorers. The nutrient-poor soil and arid climate of Curacao proved unsuitable to, resulting in small bitter fruit on the trees.

Brandy Brandy is liquor that is distilled from wine or other fruit juice that has been fermented. Brandy Liquor was stumbled upon by accident. Shipping wine on long voyages was costly, it was decided to reduce the wine by distilling it into burnt wine, which later became known as Brandy wine and then eventually just Brandy. Brandy can be made from any grape juice that has been fermented.
Bushmills Irish Whiskey Bushmills Original is the base of the distillery's portfolio and it is a great bottle to have in stock for "everyday" use. Butterscotch schnapps is great with Bailey's irish cream in a bailey's comet cocktail or malibu rum in a butterscotch livesaver and it is probably most famous for the buttery nipple.

Canadian Whisky  
Captain Morgan Rum Captain Morgan Rum is distilled from sugar cane. The combination of the type of yeasts employed for fermentation, distillation method, aging conditions, and blending determines the characteristic flavor of rum. Cherry Brandy Cherry Brandy is brandy made from dark sweet cherries, Cherry flavored Brandy is Brandy made from grapes and flavored with cherries, and Cherry flavored liqueur is a neutral spirit flavored with cherries. All of these are interchangeable with some quality and subtlty differences. Depending on the drink that you are mixing there is not much of a taste difference. Drinking these alone with out mixing them is the way to really differenciate between Cherry Brandy, Cherry flavored Brandy and Cherry liqueur. Cherry Brandy poured into a snifter glass the be drunk at room temperature is the best way to taste the finer points of this brandy. The warmer your liquor the more you can taste it. This holds true for all your liquor, you hold the snifter glass in the palm of your hand to warm the alcohol.
Cinnamon Schnapps Cinnamon Schnapps is a very sweet and sticky alcohol with a strong cinnamon taste. Cinnamon schnapps comes in a wide variety of alcohol contents as do many schnapps alcohols. The lowest alcohol content is around 17%abv. up to over 100 proof schnapps. So when drinking or mixing cinnamon schnapps consider the strength of the schnapps you are using. Some of the popular cinnamon schnapps brands are goldschlager, Hot Damn, Aftershock, the goldschlager has actual flakes of gold floating in the bottle. Cinnamon schnapps is a great after dinner cocktail. Serve it straight up ina appertif glass or mix it into a cocktail.
Ciroc Vodka

Creme de banana Creme de Banana Liqueur is a very sweet Banana flavored liqueur. Creme de Banana Liqueur can be drunk over ice and sipped or mixed into many different cocktails.Creme de banana is a familiar ingredient in tropical and blended Cocktails. The most Famous Cocktail that uses Creme de Banana liquer is the Rum runner, RUM, AMBER RUM, CREME DE BANANA, BLACKBERRY BRANDY, ORANGE JUICE and GRENADINE. Creme de Cacao Creme de Cacao is a chocolate flavored liqueur. ;Mostly made from a brandy base these liqueurs are flavored with chocolate and then sugar is added. Creme de cacao comes in dark and clear colors, respectively called white or dark. Creme de cacao is more an additive to cocktails than a stand alone drink.Even though there are cocktails that use creme de cacao as th dominant alcohol. Always use the white unless you need to make use of the brown color. If you tried to make a Girl Scout Cookie shooter with the dark the color would, not be a lively green, but a muddy greenish brown. Chocolate liqueurs are considered something different, however they are basically the same but usually a higher quality.
Creme de Cassis

Crème de cassis is a sweet, dark red liqueur that is made from blackcurrants. Several cocktails are made with crème de cassis, including the very popular wine cocktail, kir. It may also be served as an after-dinner liqueur or as a frappé.

Creme de Framboise Crème de Framboise is served on its own as a digestif or mixed with white wines, crémants and champagnes as an aperitif or cocktail. It can also be used to pour over desserts.
Creme de Menthe Crème de menthe is a sweet, mint-flavored alcoholic beverage. Its flavor is primarily derived from Corsican mint. It is available commercially in a colorless (called "white") and a green version (which obtains its color from the mint leaves or from the addition of coloring, if extract and not the leaves are used to make the liqueur). Both varieties have similar flavors and are interchangeable in recipes, except where the color is important. Crème de menthe is used as an ingredient in several cocktails, such as the Grasshopper and the Stinger, and is also served as an after-dinner drink.
Creme de Mure Creme de Cassis is a French fruit liqueur made from black current berries. If you can't get black or red currents, then use black berries (Mures).
Creme de Noyaux Creme de Noyaux is an almond-flavored crème liqueur made from apricot kernels, which also flavor the better-known, brandy-based amaretto. It may also be made from the almond-shaped kernels contained within peach pits.Both Bols and Hiram Walker produce artificially colored red versions of the liqueur (either of which contribute the pink hue to Pink Squirrel cocktails) while Noyau de Poissy from France is available in both clear (blanc) and barrel-aged amber (ambre) versions.
Creme de Violette Crème de Violette, also known as liqueur de violette, is a generic term for a liqueur with natural and/or artificial violet flower flavoring and coloring with either a brandy base, a neutral spirit base, or a combination of the two. The taste profile and aroma are distinctly floral and sweet, and to many reminiscent of the violet candies popular in the early to mid 20th century. Its known production dates back to the early 19th century when it was served with dry vermouth or alone as a cordial.
Creme Yvette

Crown Royal Whisky Crown Royal Whisky is a Canadian Whisky. Crown Royal is very smooth and mixes well with sprite or cola. Crown Royal whisky is a fine enough Whisky to sip it straight from a glass. When it comes to whisky, people tend to have their favorites and be a little more discerning because of that. So being the No. 1 selling Canadian whisky in the United States, which has a fair share of connoisseurs, gives Crown Royal some power. It is a blended whisky that was first introduced in 1939 and has since become a leading brand among blended whiskys. Like most, it has a proof of 80 and a few limited-edition or rarer variations for purchase.
Cruzan Rum

Cynar Cynar is an Italian bitter liqueur made from 13 herbs and plants. Predominant amongst these is the artichoke, from which the drink derives its name. Cynar is dark brown in color, has a bittersweet flavor, and its strength is 16.5% ABV.
